Two Banks, One Bridge

Two Banks, One Bridge

[Intro]

[Verse 1]
It was a bridge, we never saw the tide
We crossed from bank to bank, no need to say
The Sundays, the feasts, the whole family beside
We called ourselves brothers like “nice day”

[Verse 2]
Then the bridge broke on a December night
Without a sound, without a warning, nothing shook
The river was there, wide and cold in plain sight
It had always been there, we never gave it a look

[Chorus]
Two banks, two silhouettes
Two men mourning the woman
Who gave them their name
Each on his own piece of land, no bridge yet
The same eyes, the same flame

[Solo]

[Verse 3]
One stayed behind the shutters, closed and gray
Her scent on the coats, the boxes still undone
The other went upstream, toward the noise, away
They said “move on,” but we heard “run”

[Verse 4]
We waved at first, arms raised to the sky
Then calls, then texts, then polite silence, no reply
One said: “You cling to the past, you can’t let go”
The other: “You bury her twice, you know”

[Chorus]
Two banks, two silhouettes
Two men mourning the woman
Who gave them their name
Each on his own piece of land, no bridge yet
The same eyes, the same flame

[Solo]

[Bridge]
Some evenings when the mist begins to rise
We could almost see each other’s eyes
Two shadows standing still in the fading light
Facing the same water, the same night

[Final Chorus]
Two banks, two silhouettes
Two men mourning the woman
Who gave them their name
It would only take a bridge to cross the line
But bridges were hers alone to design

[Outro]
